  • Read through the newly combined scenes with Greg. Totally worked!
  • Now it’s time to get back through from the beginning and start removing the various threads that are not essential.
  • Also, came up with plan for finale. Wont be a new song but a recap of several prior songs already written.
  • The polish is going on.

  • Spent several hours combing Act II, Scenes 3, 4, and 6 into one action-packed scene.
  • Reduced 32 pages to 17 pages. Though I have a few lines of dialog still to add.
  • It’s not just shorter, it is better. More to-the-point and exciting which is exactly what the play needs in the home stretch.

Last week in summary:

HH Musical

  • Drew up an alternate scene outline for the second half of act 2. It works and I’m excited about how compressing this part of the play will add excitement and intensity that was missing.
  • Greg suggested a seed of an idea for yet another alternate scene outline. I took his idea and ran with it. Same intensity, same savings.
  • Each version has its pros/cons. We’re each going to spend a day or so contemplating each before deciding which direction to go.

Adam Rabin

  • Wrote some cool chord progressions on the new Ibanez electric (which I also did a slight neck tweak on)
  • Just needs lyrics. I don’t want to overthink/over-arrange this one. Just let it rock. Kind of has an 80s English new wave vibe.

  • Mid-day chat about her idea for a new bridge section in “FK”
  • Totally diggin’ it. I’ll work that idea into the rough track later this week.

HH Musical

  • Wrote some lyrical variations for the 4 choruses of “You Gotta Know Your Woman”
  • That song is good to go now. Incorporated the song chart into the script so it’s really official
  • Greg dug the song as well.
  • He asked when we’d be ready to do a table read. I think we’re damn close. But I really want to have all the songs written first.
  • I’m on a roll so I’m going to try and write the last 3 songs over the next few weeks.
  • Maybe I start asking around about doing a table read – might keep a flame under my butt for songwriting.

Adam Rabin

  • Tinkered with idea of doing a mash-up of “Maiden Voyage of the Acrolite” and “Cigar Box 3000”
    • I tweaked the tempo of the latter to match the former – just needed to be slowed by 2 bpm so it’s not noticeable.
    • Slightly different keys. But that never stopped me in the past.
    • Low priority project but something I’ll pick up if I’m only in the mood to dick around
  • And, I heard from Lyle who spent some time working on a guitar solo for “Here For You” which is a tune I started with Adam W and Chris C about two years ago. That song will see the light of day at some point.
